Millicent
Brake
English Australian Soprano, Millicent Brake, is a recent Masters graduate in Opera Performance from Melbourne Conservatorium of Music where she studied under the tutelage of Anna Connolly. Her Masters was pursuant to gaining a Bachelor of Music majoring in Classical Voice Performance, from Elder Conservatorium of Music. Highlights across her studies have been performing the title roles in Massenet’s ‘Cendrillon’, Gretel in ‘Hänsel & Gretel’ and Monica in ‘The Medium’; she also enjoyed playing Amore and Valetto in ‘L’incoronazione di Poppea’. With Victorian Opera, Millicent has performed in educational youth operas in the roles of Lady Rosella in ‘The Lyrebird’s Voice’ and Tjatjarrang in ‘Parrwang Lifts the Sky’.
Professionally, Millicent made her Adelaide Festival debut in March 2025 in the Australian premiere of Kaija Saariaho’s ‘Innocence’, performing both as part of the chorus and covering the role of Markéta. Millicent was a chorus member in State Opera South Australia’s production of ‘Pirates of Penzance’, part of the company’s Gilbert & Sullivan Festival. Opera Academies in Vienna, Berlin and Tokyo have also given Millicent the exciting opportunity to perform a variety of interesting roles; she sung Giulietta in ‘Les Contes d’Hoffmann’, Frasquita in ‘Carmen’, Erste Knabe in ‘Die Zauberflöte’ and cover for Susanna in ‘Le nozze di Figaro’. In 2023, Millicent was the vocal section winner of The Young Virtuoso Awards South Australia.
