Shannon
Burns

Shannon Burns is an Australian creative specialising in choreography and movement direction. In opera, Shannon has worked on major productions with Opera Australia, choreographing La Traviata on Sydney Harbour (2021), Carmen on Cockatoo Island (2022), and Carmen (2025). Internationally, she choreographed Schoenberg’s Pierrot Lunaire for the Berlin Philharmonic at the Kammermusiksaal (2024). Her work with Victorian Opera includes Il Tabarro (2024, co-produced with SydFest), Cheremushki (2023), and Abduction (2025). She has also collaborated extensively with Pinchgut Opera, and created work for Musica Viva, the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra, and the world premiere of Siegfried and Roy: The Unauthorised Opera (2025), co-produced by SydFest and LPD Productions. Her theatre credits include the Australian tour of Dear Evan Hansen (2024), co-produced by Sydney Theatre Company and The Michael Cassel Group; The Producers (2025) JRP Productions; Orlando (2025) Belvoir; and Bright Star (2025) Sport for Jove. She has an ongoing relationship with Hayes Theatre Co, where her credits include the award-winning production of Sondheim’s A Little Night Music (2023) and she has created work for Vivid Sydney, CDP Theatre Producers, Red Line Productions and New Ghosts Theatre Company. Before transitioning to choreography, Shannon enjoyed a wide-ranging performance career across stage, film, television, and major events. She trained in ballet at the Queensland Dance School of Excellence and completed her performing arts training at ED5INTERNATIONAL.
